The annual Georgia Tech Holi Show was held on Sunday, April 4th 2004. This is the most awaited show, since prior years the show had exceeded everyone's expectations. Well, did this year's show meet everyone's expectations? The answer to this question is yes and no.
One thing cannot be refuted, Atlanta has an abundance of talent! Overall, the acts were great. The one that stands out in my mind is the Rajisthani folk dance performed by Asha Roberson. She danced with a sword balanced on her head. A combination of that incredible talent, and her flexibility, made an amazing performance.
Other acts that stood out were the dances done by students of Nritya Natya Kala Bharti (directed by Kumud Savla), and the dance by Kruti Dance Academy. Of course the dance group “Sitara” of Emory University was also very well directed and coordinated. The grand finale was mind-blowing.
However, the show had its fine share of drawbacks. First, it could have been a lot more organized. There were technical difficulties that could have been avoided. There was even a 15 minute pause in music that left the audience waiting. Last but not least, the show was too long. Since it was on a Sunday, it was very inconvenient for many people.
Even though there were a few errors in the overall picture, the Georgia Tech Holi Show has earned it’s stature in the community. For the first time ever, this show was held at the Woodruff Center for the Arts. Usually, the show is held at the Robert Ferst Center at Georgia Tech. This itself is a commendable achievement for the Georgia Tech India Club. The capacity for this auditorium is twice the capacity of the Robert Ferst Center. Moreover, the show was pretty much sold out. For one thing, this showed that the Indian Community in Atlanta is growing.
