Chalte Chalte with Saathiya: A Successful Entertainer
Wednesday, June 02, 2004
Chalte-ChalteThe event was held at Earthlink Live and lasted four enjoyable hours. I was unsure of what to expect myself, although I was excited about seeing Abhijeet on stage since I love his voice. The turnout was not as large as expected but the audience was enthusiastic and welcoming. The audience seemed excited about the show and they definitely got their money’s worth. Nikki Walia, the MC for the evening, introduced the event, which sent the audience into a round of applause. Her dynamic personality was a definite plus for the show.

Asha Patel was the first singer on the line-up and impressed the audience with her rendition of “Yeh Larka Hai Allah.” Mohammed Salamat was next and started off with Late Mohammed Rafi’s hit song “Darde Dil Darde Jigar” which was very entertaining. He definitely was not an “upcoming” singer as mentioned by the MC since his voice was very touching and appealing to the audience.

Sadhna Sargam (winner of Zee Playback Singer Award) sang melodiously and engaged the audience with “Chupke Se” (Saathiya) and “Saath Samunder” (Vishwatma). Next in line was Suman Ranganathan. Although she looked beautiful on stage, her performance was far from riveting. But the climax was yet to come.

Abhijeet surprised everyone with his charismatic and well-rounded personality. His vocals were excellent but it was his ability to communicate with the audience that was a pleasant surprise. His histrionics and antics were exemplary.

The most memorable moments of the evening were the songs that Abhijeet sang from Dhadkan “Tum Dil Ki Dharkan Mein” and Chalte Chalte “Tauba Tumhare Yeh Ishare” and “ Suno Na.”

The program was well organized by “Chakku Bhai” and well presented by Mark Premji. The food was also appetizing and consisted of samosas and bhel puri.

Hopefully, Abhijeet and his accompanying group of singers will come back soon to entertain us. At the end of the evening when Abhijeet was asked about what he would like to say to his fans in Atlanta, his response was the following:

Atlanta has become a family. I can get the love of four generations but somehow the relationship between Atlanta and me continues to grow.

I hope that he is right and returns soon to strengthen his relationship with Atlanta.
