Soca Chutney Explosion

Florida Melody MakersWest Indians really know how to “mash up ah party”. A live band, a gold-mine of food, dancing and singing all enriched the Pre-mother’s Day Soca Chutney Explosion, a fundraiser for a new Indo-Caribbean Hindu temple. The temple, Vishwa Bhavan Mandir Inc. (VBM), will be built in Loganville, where six acres of land has already been acquired. The organization created this event to help fund the building of VBM, which aspires to be constructed within the next six to eight months.

Prayer from youth troupe Faithful members of Vishwa Bhavan Mandir, families, and friends all gathered to have a good time while supporting a good cause. The benefit opened with a prayer from the youth troupe of the temple, and then went on to sensational dance performances. A very well renowned band from Florida also traveled to be at the function.

Florida Melody Makers (FMM), an internationally known orchestra, had the hall “jumpin” and “whinin” to live chutney, soca, and reggae. They even played some classic Kumar Sanu, Lata, and Kishor Kumar melodies. FMM, a band that journeys all around the world, has been together for seven years. They love what they do, and they performed for the VBM cause absolutely free.

The evening was enjoyable, and supported by many local venues. Bhindi Jewelers, Maharaja Restaurant, Platinum Mortgage, and ReMax Platinum were a few of the sponsors for the event.

The idea for the Vishwa Bhavan Mandir was conceived when a small group of people began gathering on Sunday mornings for Satsang. It then evolved into a grand idea that would benefit the entire community.

Whether you were there for the benefit of the cause, to eat drink and be merry, or to dance and hang out with friends, the Pre-mother’s Day Soca Chutney Explosion was a blast.
