Samsonite to launch new baggage in India
Friday, September 10, 2004
Samsonite Luggage[Business India] Bhubaneswar, Sep 3 : Travel accessories major Samsonite will soon introduce a specially designed bag to enable hassle-free air travel for tourists and ease security concerns of paranoid US officials. Any 'Silhouette Nine' bag could be opened with a "master key" which would be provided to customs and immigration officials at all the entry points into the US, Samsonite South Asia president Ramesh Tainwala told IANS.

"It is like a hotel owner having a master key with which he can open a room even though he has given a key to the customer," he said.

The baggage would also enable "quick access" and provide travellers more comfort. The US Samsonite Corporation was expecting to launch the new baggage with the approval of the customs and immigration officials, Tainwala said.

Samsonite has about 250 retailers in India and some 1,300 in the world. "We expect 600 more by 2006," Dr Tainwala said adding that the company hoped to sell at least 250,000 pieces of Silhouette Nine per annum.

It has several manufacturing centres at various locations of the world including Nashik in India from where the new baggage is mostly to be rolled out.
